The Aresty Research Assistant (RA) program matches students who are new to research to professors' current research projects for an academic year. Students develop problem-solving skills in research environments, learn to communicate research to diverse audiences, and build confidence in the social environment of research.

Lecture/laboratory course that emphasizes the development of skills necessary for the production of photographic documents on environmental themes while exposing students to the history and traditions of photographic documentation in science and art. Students are required to provide their own digital camera, preferably with camera raw capability.

An independent study project in the student's field of interest, carried out with a cooperating faculty member. Written report required at the end of each semester.

A two-semester independent research project, culminating in an oral presentation at a program-wide symposium and a written thesis.

11:554:497, 498 Honors Tutorial V,VI (BA)
Senior-year tutorials (3-6 credits/semester) are taken only by students who, for a variety of reasons, have opted not to undertake The George H. Cook Scholars (senior honors thesis) Program. The Tutorial Advisor should, however, expect the same level of initiative and independence as an honors thesis candidate, but no actual "thesis," "defense" or "committee" is required: Tutorials V and VI are simply independent study projects developed by the student.
